Welcome to the CloakPass Getting Started Page

PLEASE READ THIS GETTING STARTED PRIMER

Overview:  CloakPass is a small, simple program that lets you use familiar, easy, and easy to remember words or phrases to enter very complicated passwords at web sites.  For instance, the password you type can be your name, "Dave" or "mybank" or "eBay" but the CloakPass program will enter w$sK3>45.  All YOU have to remember is your password.  Simply press Ctrl + Alt + P, type in your password as always, and hit the enter key.  That's all there is to it.

Getting Started - Practice:

  • Start CloakPass and note the icon in the taskbar.  CloakPass runs silently in the background
  • Open a blank Word or Notepad Document
  • Type in a word or phrase and then press enter
  • Now hold down the CTRL and  ALT keys together and then press and release the P key (CtlAltP)
  • Now retype the same word or phrase and press enter
  • You now see how CloakPass changes the characters to make a truly secure password from any easy to remember word
  • Now do the same exercise, but change the word by adding a 1 to the start
  • An entirely new password is created, even though you only changed one character. Instead of changing just one character, CloakPass changes ALL the characters.

What you need to remember

  • Every time you use CTL ALT P, you are using CloakPass to encrypt what you type
  • You only have to remember your password or phrase and CloakPass will enter the encrypted version of that
  • You can have the same word for all your passwords on all sites, or you can make each website login different (See the "Tips" link)

Getting Started – Websites:

  • Go to one of your current websites that requires a login/password
  • Login as you normally do
  • Go to the change password link
  • If you are asked for your current password, type in your current password as you always do
  • To enter your new password, mouse click in the entry box and then press CTRL ALT P and simply type in a word of your choice (such as “Dave”) or use exactly the same password you use now
  • Usually they require you re re-verify the new password, so TAB to the next block (don't use enter) and then hit CTRL ALT P.  Now retype your password (such as “Dave”) and hit the "Enter" key
  • Done – you just remember your word (such as “Dave”) and CloakPass will type in the actual more secure scrambled password
  • Next time you visit the site, don't forget to type the CTRL ALT P before typing your password.
